First year public policy/human rights major and devoted dem Sly Yushchyshyn has started a petition for automatic voter registration in Illinois. Here’s what he has to say about it:
“When only 16.3% of 18-29 year olds went to vote during the 2014 midterm elections, I knew something had to be done. One of the biggest reasons individuals don’t vote is because of the registration requirements. Each state has different regulations and laws. If passed, SB2134 make Illinois the 4th state in the nation to automatically register citizens who apply, update, or renew their driver’s licenses or state IDs. Besides registering young Americans to vote, the bill would also reduce red tape, increase accuracy, and save the state money.”
